Bruising on legs / Petechiae

Hello,

Recently I have had a suspected lesion removed from my thigh and am waiting for the results which I’ve been adviced can take up to 6 weeks. I have really struggled with anxiety and sleeping during the past 7 weeks or so since it appeared and getting it removed just over a week ago. Could this affect bruising I am getting on my legs. I have always bruised easily, just recently though I seem to not hurt myself and bruises on my legs appearing and some are quite firm to touch. Last night I also notice afew spots of Petechiae which I am really concerned about. I did have blood tests acouple of weeks ago, the APTT test came back borderline (was redone and just in line) and the full blood count satisfactory although the lymphocytes were slightly low. I did see another doc Friday as more bruising appeared, who said it is probably to do with mye not eating enough protein as I am a vegan and said not to worry but the bruising just doesn’t seem right

Can stress / anxiety / lack of protein cause this?

Any advice would be hugely appreciated as don’t know wether to go back to the doctors or not

Thank you

Claz

  • Hello Claz,

I am sorry to hear you are so worried about this bruising. You've done the right thing to go back to see another doctor on Friday and to mention this bruising and I think it is legitimate if you are not satisfied with the doctor's analysis to request another opinion. You can find out more about getting another opinion on this page

Waiting for those results can be an incredibly stressful experience and if these can take up to six weeks I can imagine it will be difficult to think about anything else. I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • hello,

thank you for responding to me. I paid private to see a GP yesterday as was really panicking, and have been referred to see a haemotologist next Wed. He did say he doesn’t believe it is sinister as I asked about the chances of leukaemia. Due to my full blood count test acouple of weeks ago being satisfactory and the colour of my bruising even though it isn’t right as appearing without me bumping myself and the bruises don’t hurt he doesn’t think it is something sinister. So I’m hoping that is the case. But then I had a browny bruise appear on my buttocks today and again doesn’t hurt so that has worried me so will just have to wait and see. He also said keep an eye on bruises on my back and chest so am majorly paranoid about that at the moment and thought I saw a bruise on my back but family members I’ve had have a look at it say it’s just alittle mark so I’m hoping it is

    Thank you

    Claz

  • Hi there, I can see this was posted a good few years ago so not sure if you will get this message, but on the off chance that you do, I would love to know how you got on with this? I'm in a similar situation - had a suspicious mole removed from my upper right thigh last week and about 4 days later I noticed some petechie on my lower right thigh... I'm thinking it can't be a coincidence and perhaps a side effect of the surgery but not really seeing anything online to indicate that this could be the cause?!

Hope you are doing well x
