Breastfeeding and referred to breast clinic

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone has been through something similar.. I went for my 6 week check after the birth of my son and asked the doctor to check my breasts. She found something on my left breast but said it felt like a normal breast tissue. She said she will check again when my son had his checks in 3 weeks time. I wasn't worried or even thought about it but once she checked it again she wanted to refer me to the breast clinic. She said it still feels like a normal breast tissue but is different from the other breast.

Can breast tissue be different in each breast? Should I be worried they will find something sinister?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

The breasts go through a lot of changes in pregnancy and with breastfeeding. And it's not unusual for them to look or feel different. I think your doctor has referred you to the breast clinic just to be on the safe side.

At the breast clinic they are likely to examine you and carry out some type of imaging ( mammogram or ultrasound) to find out more. Waiting and not knowing can be unsettling so try and keep yourself busy and your mind on other things if you can as this can help.

Hopefully other members will come along and share their experiences.

I hope your appointment goes well and everything turns out to be okay.

    Best wishes,

    Celene
