Breast symptoms - has anyone had a similar experience

Good evening everyone,

I have had an itchy right nipple/breast for a few months, now and then I contemplated seeing the GP but never got round to it. Last weekend I found a solid lump in my right breast so made an appointment with my GP. My GP felt the lump and confirmed it to not be a cyst. GP has referred me to the hospital where I see a consultant on Thursday I think for some images.

ive been driving myself crackers with the correlation between the itchiness and the lump and wondered if there's anyone out there that had both and didn't have breast cancer?

Two women in my family have had breast cancer, one aged 28 and one in her 40's, I am 39, single mum with 2 children worried I need to seriously start making some plans

Thank you in advance for any advice given x

  • Hey Lsr281205 and welcome to the forum.

I just wanted to wish you good luck for Thursday and share some information I've found online about what will happen at your breast clinic appointment.

I hope this helps but hopefully some of our members who have had similar symptoms will share their experiences with you soon.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi

I've literally just got home from a priority appointment at my local hospitals breast clinic and im not happy with how my appointment went.

    I am 31 years old.

A little history on my symptoms regarding my breast(s):-

•2014 Random sharp pains every so often in my left breast that wasn't normal for me and wasn't cyclic. Went to my go who referred me to the breast clinic. Had a doctor physically examine my left breast and say he couldn't feel anything but still sent me downstairs to have a scan where they saw something that they described as grizzly behind my left nipple where I was getting the pain. They done a biopsy there and then which was injecting in my breast and then used a long thick biopsy needle to extract some of the mass that they had seen to be sent off for testing. Weeks later the results came back and I was told that I have a benign tumor which is mom cancerous. After months the pain died down.

    • In 2018 the same pain came back in my left breast so I was sent back to the breast clinic for another scan and was given the all clear that it's the same thing and that it hasn't increased in size and no changes which was great news.

•JAN 2020- THE SAME SHARP PAIN HAS COME BACK AND NOW IN BOTH BREASTS AND MORE PAIN STOPS ME FROM DOING WHAT I'M DOING WHEN IT COMES AND NOT ONLY THAT, THE SITE WHERE THE LUMP/BENIGN/NON CANCEROUS TUMOUR IS IS ITCHING LIKE CRAZY AND REDNESS ONE MORNING ON BOTH BREASTS WHEN I WOKE UP. AGAIN THE PAIN ISN'T CONSTANT SO I CAN DEAL WITH THAT BUT ITS THE CONSTANT INTERNAL ITCH WHERE THAT LUMP IS THAT IS DOING MY HEAD IN. I SAW MY A DOCTOR AT MY GP IN JANUARY WHO SAID SHE ISNT WORRIED BUT GAVE ME CANESTEN CREAM FOR THE REDNESS IN CASE IT WAS THE START OF A FUNGAL INFECTION.

•FEB 2020/ A WEEK AGO I SAW A 2ND DOCTOR AT MY GP RE THE PAIN AND ITCHINESS AND HE EXAMINED ME AND COULD FEEL THE BENIGN TUMOR, BUT ALSO SAID FELT SOMETHING ELSE IN MY LEFT BREAST/CHEST AREA BUT DOESNT THINK ITS ANYTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. HE STILL REFERRED ME TO THE BREAST CLINIC.

MY APPOINTMENT WAS THIS MORNING AND I SAW A VERY RUDE DOCTOR WHO DIDNT BOTHER TO READ THE REFERAL LETTER AND HAD ME EXPLAIN IT OVER TO HER THEN STILL ASKED ME THE QUESTIONS THEY WOULD USUALLY ASK ANYWAY, SHE SEEMED CONCERNED UNTIL I TOLD HER THAT I HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN REFERRED AND DIAGNOSED WITH A NON CANCEROUS BENIGN TUMOUR AND THEN FROM THAT POINT SHE WAS JUST GOING OFF OF OLD NOTES FROM MY PREVIOUS VISIT. SHE NO LONGER SENT ME FOR TGE SCAN MY DOCTOR REFERRED ME FOR AND JUST DONE A PHYSICAL EXAMINATION WHICH I WAS FURIOUS ABOUT.

I MEAN NO ONE WANTS TO BE DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER BUT I FEEL THAT SHE SHOULD HAVE STILL SENT ME FOR THE SCAN BECAUSE YOU OFTEN HEAR STORIES WHERE PEOPLES DIAGNOSTICS CHANGE WITH TIME.

THE ITCHING DEFINITELY ISNT NORMAL FOR ME AND I DONT THINK I CAN BEAR IT MUCH LONGER. WITH IT BEING AN INTERNAL ITCH ITS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO GET TO IT WHICH DOES MY HEAD IN. I JUST NEED CLOSURE ON THE SITUATION THEN I CAN MOVE FORWARD.

MAY I ASK, IS YOUR ITCHING INTERNAL OR EXTERNAL?

  • Also can you let me know what your doctor/breast clinic thoughts are on what may be or is causing the itch you have? Is there anything that you use that helps with the itching?? Any info or recommendations would be appreciate. Thank you..xx

  • Hi

I'm not sure if you've seen my reply to this post but i'm having similar symptoms. Have had problems with my breast and now breasts for years since 2014 and have been told a few times that it's nothing to worry about, just a benign tumor but the itching where the lump is is a recent and new symptom for me. It does my head in as its an internal itch where the benign tumor lump is under my nipples so I cannot get to the itch.

Just out of curiosity, how did they diagnose your cancer?? Was it first diagnosed using a mammogram, ultrasound or by physical examination?? And if you could, what was yout history of breast issues before diagnostic? Was it ongoing issues or just sudden and  then a diagnostic?

  • Or is it by biopsy that they diagnosed it?
