Breast feels different...

Today I saw my GP as one of my breasts just feels different and has done for a couple of weeks now. If I lay down it feels hard, it's become slightly larger.

My GP said she could feel an area that was"thickened" and wants to speak to me in two weeks incase it's related to my menstrual cycle which is due next week.
If it's no different or worse then she will refer through the two week system.

Im only 27, nothing runs in my family and it's quite scary to think of what this could be. Anybody experienced similar or can offer any reassurance?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hello KJ93E

I'm sorry to hear that you've been experiencing some breast discomfort recently. You did exactly the right thing in getting it checked with your GP.

It's not uncommon for younger women to have naturally lumpy breasts and sometimes breast discomfort and lumps can be connected to the menstrual cycle. Even if your GP does refer you for investigations, keep in mind that the majority of women seen at breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer. With no family history and at 27 years of age, you also have those things on your side as well.

Let us know how you get on at your next review with the GP.

    Best wishes,
