Breast cyst

Hi

I'm just wanting some advise from anyone similar situation, I've found lump had breast pain and shadowing bruise on the side as well. My mum had breast cancer at 51 (2yrs ago) my nan at 74 (5yrs ago) her sister in between and also my great nan, al we have a strong family history.
in August 2014 I found a lump in right breast which turned to be fatty lump, this time feels diff and had consults over phone due to covid then a ultrasound was organised same day. The doctor didn't exam me just did ultra sound asked few questions said pain was pulled chest wall and lump was 5mm cyst.

no mention of follow up biopsy, needle aspiration or anything I'm still anxious I'm 37 mum of 2 one which is 14yr old daughter and it's going 3 generations already I can't start mammograms till I'm 40 and no one offering baracca 1/2 test

  • My wife had breast cancer and hers was HER2 (She's only 34). She had lump in her breast and when she had a ultrasound it came back as a cyst, she asked for a mammogram and it came back fine. She then demanded another scan with a different nurse, they found they cancer hiding behind the cyst. I would ask for another opinion personally, another mammogram and ultrasound. If it wasn't for the nurse who found the cancer behind the cyst, it would have been a  different scenario alltogether.

This is your health and your body, you have every right to ask for another opinion. My wife new deep down something is wrong. Go with your gut.

I really do hope you get some answers but don't feel bad for asking again, it's your health at the end of the day.

    Kind Regards,

    Dave

  • Sorry to add, but you should ask for a biopsy, better for your own mental health also to rule it out.

I hope it turns out to be nothing but better to be safe.

    Kind regards,

    Dave

  • Thank you for this Dave

i have really bad feeling in my gut and the pain and swelling and difference to the breast has made my concerns worse. I just feel was rushed due to Covid19 and not Cos was thorough. They telling me I won't get mammogram as I'm only 37 breast tissue more dense under 40 and that's why after my mums diagnosis and my family history appt when I was 35 they said they would start when I'm 40! Which I found worrying as they say well she was 51 my nan and auntie in 70's so I'm fine! Then read your post and you just prove that the symptoms and usual cases are t always the case.

do you mind me asking are you UK? Thank you for this I'll be asking for 2nd opinion I want a definite that it's a cyst

  • Hi Linzi,

The ultrasounds are pretty reliable but better to be on the safe side.

They drained my wife's cyst but it filled back up. They did take a biopsy to be 100% certain. My wife has said to ask for another appointment and ask for a biopsy and a CT scan.

I am from the UK, currently live in the North  wifeWest. My  wife was only 32 when she was diagnosed and had a mammogram at the time and is still having them every year. They are right that the mammogram won't show anything because the tissue is too dense but they still do them. Your age shouldn't not come into it. If the option is there to do a mammogram, they should be giving you it. To me it sound as though it was rushed.

Stick with your gut, life is too precious and let's be honest they don't always get it right. Better to be safe than sorry.

If you ever need a chat give me message on here.

I had kidney cancer in Nov 2019, it was found in December 2018 but was marked down as a hemourged cyst and was given the all clear. Had another scan in Oct due to pain and found it was cancer and I was never informed.

Go with your gut, as my gut saved my life.

    Kind Regards,

    Dave
