Breast cancer screening

Hi there, I hope your well. I found a lump on my breast 3 weeks ago and have since been to the docotrs and now have a hospital appointment on the 12th July, however the long wait has made me feel soo anxious and worried. I have 2 children and can't stop thinking the worst. I now have a bit of a rash and dry skin on the affected boob alongside a pain in the right lower back that is waking me up early every morning. I am trying to get my assignment done but struggling with all this stress. I have felt a prickling sensation in my boob at times and my chest feel heavy sometimes. I'm just worried.

  • Hello Nik-ash-eth,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat. You did well to go to the doctor's after finding a lump on your breast and I hope that your hospital appointment on the 12th goes well. Luckily it's only three days to wait now before you are seen.  The wait can often feel unbearable in a situation like this and there are helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There is also information on this page from Breast Cancer Care so that you can prepare yourself for your breast clinic appointment.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

    Lucie, Cancer Chat Moderator
