breast cancer mri

Hi lovely ladies

New to this forum but Hope you are all as well as we can be x

Dont know if anyone has had this happen ,

Got my diagnosis in March , one lump found , had an MRI to check everything before my surgery , my treatment is surgery and radiotherapy,  saw my Doctor after the MRI for the results but unfortunately she said they had seen 2 more lumps so she made an appointment for an ultrasound and biopsy of them both , the radiologist doing the ultrasound said she couldn't see them ? I'm going back to my consultant on Wednesday for the results of the biopsy but never had it done!! Could the MRI be very sensitive and picked up lumps that were not there ? Very anxious now incase the surgeon decides to leave them if she finds them during surgery , has anyone else had a similar experience between the results of am MRI and an ultrasound?

xx

  • hi, sorry to hear youre going through this but rest assured you are not alone and this is a great site to talk, get advice and just share fears and sucesses with all the lovely ladies (and some gents) on this page. After researching everything possible about BC due to a relative having it i can only tell you that as i understand it an MRI and an Ultrashall are completely different in picking up breast tumors, and MRI will pick it up, an Ultrashall often not, an Ultraschall will also not show calcification, for that you need a Mammogram, calcification can be an indication of early BC, but is often benign and of no significance. if you were ordered a Biopsy that should have been done, its also possible whilst undergoing an MRI to perform Biopsies, i would make sure that you get all this done as soon as possible to either confirm or rule out other tumors....all the best. xx

    Hi Ollymag,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am so sorry to hear about the further confusion that your MRI seems to have caused. You will find it helpful to write down a list of any questions before you see your consultant on Wednesday. If possible, get the help of a friend or family member to do this, as they often think of different questions than you do.

Rest assured that if something has shown up on mammogram, your surgeon will make extra sure to look for these and remove them at the time of surgery, if s/he deems it necessary. I am surprised that the biopsy wasn't carried out regardless of the findings.

I hope that all goes well on Wednesday. Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you for your reply x

It's the waiting for test results  that I think is hard , especially when I'm on my own  , im just eager to get started on my treatment,  I have a lovely breast nurse who has told me , like you have  , to write everything down xx

I think this forum will be a massive help to me xx

    Take care xx

  • I will be having hormone therapy aswell for 5 years , really looking forward to early menopause!! x

    Hi Ollymag,

There are worse things than an early menopause. Those 5 years fly by. Waiting for your results is one of the hardest part of our cancer journeys. Do you have  a family member or friend who you can confide in. It is a great help to have someone who you can bre your soul to. I expect that you'll find this forum very helpful too. It is often easier to speak to a stranger who has experienced what you are going through without upsetting family or friends.

I shall be thinking of you tomorrow.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
