Breast Cancer (again)

Hi All

Been reading of a few of the posts and just wanted to say hi, really.

Having reached my 5 yr anniversary in Autumn, I'm feeling pretty *** at the min having recently been diagnosed again in same breast after my annual routine mammogram.

A little bit of history: Spring 2011 my elder sister (45 at the time) found a lump which was (ductal) breast cancer, 2 months later my mum (65 at the time) found a lump which was (lobular) breast cancer and after joing the Family History Clinic at my local hospital August 2012 (nearly 43) my tumour was spotted after my 2nd annual mammogram.

So am now waiting for results of a CT scan (scary times) and a date for surgery for a mastectomy and possible ovariectomy.

Don't really know what else to say except hopefully get results and surgery date on thursday so for now it's all things crossed x

  • Hi there ... well hunny ... life's a bag of poop sometimes ... that cancer waits to let you feel more positive and it knocks you down again ... but you did it once, you can do it again ... at least you know how the system goes.. you keep your positive head on, kick it's bum again ... wer all here with you ...  cancer wants us to give in, but wer a pretty strong bunch, and together well get it on the run ... let us know how you go ... wer on this rollercoaster too, just look round, and wer there ...

Well brave lady, sending you a big caring hug ... hold on in there ... Chrissie xx

  • Hey girl121 - that's a real bummer bit you know you can do this. You'll feel *** - that is pretty natural. I cannot even imagine what you must be going through emotionally. But you got this!

As said in Chris's post - you've done this before and it is treatable - that's the great part. What you have to get through is by no means easy but you can do this. Focus on the outcome.

I also lost my mom to breast cancer and my sister was diagnosed 7 yrs ago. I was diagnosed last year at this time. It sucks and life throws us curveballs but we just gotta get through it.

Keep us posted and vent if you need to because I'm always listening.x

  • Hello ladies.  I am ignorant about breast cancer (yes I know, ain't I lucky) but there do seem to be cases of breast cancer running in families.  Is this the genetic mutation that we have heard about in the press that has resulted in some (mainly rich celebities) having breasts removed.  Or am I totally off the mark?  I realise it is all very fine for me to ask when it is not my problem but I would be grateful for any comments.  And I do so want you all to beat this for good.

  • Hi Annieliz. Unfortunately none is us are medically trained and can only share our experience. Perhaps go onto cancer research or breastcarenow website? It is rather complicated but there is quite a bit of info out there.
  • Thanks for replying; I was just wondering.  I remembered for example Angelina Jolie having a double mastectomy because a faulty gene appeared to run in her family.  I realise that what the rich and famous can do is not always open to the rest of us but it was an interesting subject and I will indeed look it up.

  • I'm in a family history programme at the hospital

they are going to re check our history as my mum died of it at 42.

    Ask to be referred

I have two daughters who I don't want to go through this in the future

    good luck

my op is next Friday x

  • I’m also in the family history programme but we tested negative for the BRCA1&2 and were told no known genetic link. Ours is apparently a huge coincidence

But I agree always best to speak to a professional x

Thanks ladies for your comments x yep back on the rollercoaster

  • Good luck today and let us know how your appt goes. Thinking of you.

  • Good news. CT results show it’s isolated. Op for mastectomy on 27th Dec x

  • Yeah!!!!!! That's great news and I'm so glad! You got this!

Op wont be easy but it's a step closer to getting rid of the bas**** Cancer!!! Youll get through this and we are here every step of the way.

Go do something you're up to to celebrate. All victories whether big or small have to be celebrated.

Here any day and every day. YOU GOT THIS!!
