Breast cancer

Hi I was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer (Her2 positive). CT scan also showed something going on in my stomach which I've had MRI for yesterday. Fingers crossed it's not related to the cancer.

Just want to get started on my treatment. I've been given a choice of chemo, op and radiotherapy or op, chemo and radiotherapy, 2 different consultants and really don't know which one to choose !!

  • Very sorry to heAr

can I ask what were your symptoms

  • Hi

I haven't had any symtoms and couldn't feel anything when lying down. It was only when I went to swipe what I thought was an ant off my opposite arm that i felt something not quite right with my boob even then I wasn't convinced I could feel something when having a good prod.

  • Hi. Ive had loads of tests and 3 scans. I always dreaded the results more than the test. Like you, i had 'suspiscous areas' around my stomach and lungs. Thankfuly they've turned out to be nothing (even though the consultant told me to be prepared) but i was worried sick for 2 weeks! But it doesn't always mean its something bad and i really hope yours will be fine. Ive got grade 2, stage 3 invasive ductaul breast cancer and is also her2 positive too. If you need to talk, im always around for a chat.

  • Hi Amy

I was diagnosed with Invasive Ductaul Breast Cancer in the 29th July.
I have had to have an MRI scan last Thursday with results of the MRI this Thursday because there was a shadow high up on the right breast and they are not sure what it is!

I haven't cried and just making light of all this in front of friends and family just to stay mentally strong. But tonight I cried I'm scared!

I don't smoke drink drugs nothing just worked all my life I am a veggie I can't believe this has happened to me!

They said to me two weeks ago breast off and reconstruction and reduce the good one to a smaller size and chemo and radiotherapy!

Chemo is something I don't want because I have hearing problems due to an operation that went wrong three years ago and had no warning to side effects and they hit a near ce and took my hearing I know wear a hearing aid and I am petrified that chemo could take down my hearing!

i don't know the way forward and would love to here yiur opinion as you are living the same misfortune as I am.

    thanks

  • Hi. Im so sorry you're going through this too. I know what you mean, it feels surreal to me all this. Try not to worry too much about the shadow, it could be anything apart from cancer. Have you spoke to your breast cancer nurse or consultant about your hearing worries? They should have an idea if it will effect that. I think the best thing to do is try and take it one step at a time. Thats what im trying to do. Ive got chemo first, then surgery then radiotherapy. Ive never had an operation so im really scared about that. But i'm not giving it too much thought until it happens! I hope ive been helpful. If you ever need to speak, im always here.

  • Hi Amy

So pleased the suspicious areas turned out to be nothing. I'm still waiting for my results but I'm trying to be positive as it's hopefully down to the C section and hysterectomy I've had in the past.

How far on are you in your treatment ? They decided to do surgery first so I'm going in on the 19th August was supposed to be a lumpectomy but I've decided to have it all off then by doing this I won't need radiotherapy just chemo.

I'm now in isolation with the family luckily my husband and son have 2 weeks off anyway and my daughter was at uni but back home since March.

Have you got your support around you ?

  • Hi Maxine

I agree with Amy you really need to ask your nurse about the side effects of chemo as I believe that depending which they give you can have different effects.

I have a wonderful nurse who as been at my beck and call as I'm always asking questions and don't like to look them up on the internet as it can be scarey what you can find and irrelevant in most cases.

Fingers crossed for your results on thursday. Let me know how it goes.

  • Hi

thank you for replying. I am going to refuse chemo for now and have breast off and radiotherapy and wait and se. Firstly the mri results and discussion this Thursday or Friday then the plan forward. I am supprised with my self as I don't seem to cry as my attitude says crying won't make it go away so what's the point!

i wish you well and good luck please keep in touch

    regards

  • I hope you get a good result, but the waiting is the hardest i found! Im starting my first round of chemo on thursday and im eager to to get treatment now but also scared. I think the worst symptom for me would be sickness, i hate it. Yeah, ive got my family and i chat on here and 'breast cancer now'. Im quite open about it and i think it makes me feel better talking it through! Its nice that you've got your family with you too. How are you coping?
