Brachytherapy/Radiotherapy recovery

Hi, as the wife of a recent brachytherapy/radiotherapy patient, who finished radiotherapy 2wks ago today I wondered if anybody else had suffered the extreme discomfort my husband is having. He was told to expect the discomfort by the consultant for about 3wks so hopefully another week and we should be seeing improvement. He finds bending so painful and is generally uncomfortable all day despite analgesia, the pain seems to radiate from the back to the front.

  • I had radiotherapy to shrink a tumour in my gullet. During the treatment I had no symptoms but the day after I finished I had awful pain where they had treated followed by nausea an sickness and breathless. Everything tasted horrible. Ended up in hospital on drip. However I was told side effects would last for 2 weeks and low and behold on the 15tb day woke up in no pain, nausea and sickness gone. Took me a week to get taste buds back an gave now built up my strength so I wake up an can do pretty much what I used too. Can eat an drink normally. As mine is Stage 4 it is not curable but treatable an I am happy to take what I can get which is the feeling of normality for as long as possible. Those side effects do go so stay strong as I am sure your husband will start to feel better soon x

  • Thankyou, I'm sure you're right and hope you stay well too.
