I love it when I'm aware of my bowel gurgling - it means it's working. The noise is due to peristalsis, and is often audible. When there's no bowel sounds, panic.

Excess gurgling is probably due to wind, which may be associated with your recent alternating bowel issues and in itself, I don't think should be of concern.

Stress, by the way, is a major cause of bowel disruption and worrying about your bowels can actually make them function differently.

I hope your future investigations have a positive result and this is all just a passing thing.

Taff, thank you for the kind words and encouragement. I’m definitely stressed over this and I actually did consider that thinking about it is partially the cause. Hopefully I’ll be able to rule out the worst this week. 

Good stuff. I, on the other hand, sit waiting to hear a decent bit of gurgling, as I had bowel surgery last Tuesday and am waiting for my new stoma to start working properly. Actually ate a bacon sarnie this morning, the first for over two years.

Colonoscopy was all clear, minus some diverticulosis. I’m still not sure what is causing the gurgling and other digestive issues. The gastroenterologist recommended a probiotic, so I’ll give that a try. It’s possible it’s IBS but I’ll have to experiment with my diet. Hi Phil, hope you get this. Just wondering if you ever got to the reason of the non stop gurgling? I have had the same for 3 weeks. It's driving me mad. I am already taking probiotics and I think they may actually be making things worse. Thanks in advance

I still have no idea what was wrong with me. The gurgling eventually just stopped. I took probiotics and I can’t say whether or not they helped. If you have concerns I would have a colonoscopy. This will rule out any cancer. Good luck and hope all is well in the future. 

Thanks Phil, I am glad it all worked out for you.  I have been on probiotics for a week now already.  Can you remember how long the gurgling went on for in your case?

Weeks. I’m not sure if I had myself worked up or if there was something else going on. After the colonoscopy I took some probiotics and it went away shortly after that.
