‘Borderline Stool Sample Result’

I had lower abdominal pain for weeks & went to see my GP. (I had one drop of blood in the water after a bowl movement once).

He requested a blood test & stool sample.

Bloods were fine. Stool sample result took two weeks & I got told today that it was borderline & I should do it again.

I was panicking & asked the receptionist what borderline means. She went to see the GP & he said it was ‘virtually normal’ but I need to do it again.

I haven’t even got the abdominal pains any more & I was thinking I was OK but now I’ll have to do a sample again Monday then wait another 2 damn weeks.

I will add that I was very constipated when I gave the sample & it was a poor sample, almost like hard nuts which I’ve never done before or since then. I was just stressed & suffering from anxiety.

Has anybody ever had a borderline result? What happened after?

  • Hello Matt85,

Welcome to our forum and I hope you will get chatting to others here who have previously had a similar borderline result and that they will be able to explain to you what it meant for them.

I know it is really stressful to have to do a repeat of your stool sample and then have to deal again with the long wait for results but hopefully you will be able to provide a better sample and you will get some clarity on all this very soon. It is excellent news though that you haven't got those abdominal pains anymore.

Good luck with it though and I keep everything crossed this time you get a definite result and that it is nothing to worry about.

    Best wishes,
