Hello Renny,
Bleeding can happen after surgery but I'm afraid we cannot tell you how often this happens and why it has happened for your husband. I can see on another thread that he was close to going home so I guess it is a disappointment and worry that they want to keep him a bit longer to make sure he is ok.
If you can, when you are next on the ward, speak with the nurse that is caring for him today and find out why they think this is happening.
In a way it is good that he did not get home and have to go back in again, he is in the best place to get sorted out.
Take care,
Caroline
Thanyou Caroline i have been to see Ronnie tonight and the doc said they think he has an infection in his uretha and he has been put on antebiotics. So i will see how he is tomorrow
Regards from Sylvia , Ronnies wife
When l worked with urology patients, l remember the patients taking a while for the bleeding to clear after this type of surgery, prostatectomy patients used to have lots of clots, the urine coming through makes it look worst as they end up with a bag full of bloody liquid.
As it heals the bleeding will subside and clear. It's a really vascular area and doesn't take much to make it bleed.
I hope your husband recovers soon and is able to come home.
take care

His urine is quite clear. They have put him on 500 mil antibiotics they think he has a infection in his urethra. So that is causing it to bleed.
Regards Sylvia.
I hope he's not to uncomfortable and home soon
Susie
He was going to come home today but at the last minuet they changed there mind and asked him to stay till tomorrow.I thought there was too much blood coming from his penis and i didn't want him to come home ether so we will see what they say tomorrow.

where having a problem with the night bag because they didn't have a night bag stand we are having to put the night bag in a mop bucket but the urine is going into the bucket and not the night bag in the bucket. I am wondering if the valve isn't closed where the urine is supposed to come Ronnie sad it is shut . The stoma nurse just phoned and i told her about it and she said she would order him a stand and have some more night bags delivered and phone back tomorrow. Some good that will do. She said the outlet is not shut tightly or it's a faulty batch ? Whats your thoughts on that.Susie

Hi sorry that your having trouble the outlet valve could be open, it's easy to slide shut, lt sounds like the urine running through the bag its a shame the ward didn't give you a run through of the night bag before you came home. It will help when you have th night bag stand, but the bucket seems a good stopgap.
The district nurses will be able to help , l would ring the doctors surgery explain what's happening and ask for a visit. A phone call from the stoma nurse is not much help
take care l hope this helps if not ring 111 and ask for soon assistance as they can contact your doctor for you.
