Bladder Kidney Lung Cancer help?

My father had a small bladder tumour removed in mid September. They found a staph infection which he was not given medicine for as they missed it. Month later he had same turbt surgery to remove a stent which was on or next to his kidney and they found necrotic tissue and mucosa found on his kidney when his stent was removed. He also has on top right of his lung a tumour very small it is either stage one lung cancer or a benign tumour. The lung tumour has been there since 2014 only grown a very small amount gradually. He still has a staph infection as the antibiotics did not work he has been given nitrofuran to take but I'm worried since he has a damaged kidney is it alright for him to take the antibiotics since the warning label mentioned if you have kidney disease then it can worsen it. And we don't know what his kidney problem is yet but he is getting fatigue and he is currently anemic too also pain where the kidney stent was. Could anyone say what the kidney problem may be? & If he should take the antibiotics for the staph and now uti that he has?

    Hi Hollee,

A warm welcome to Cancer Chat, although I’m sorry that you have had to joinus here.

You are obviously going through a very stressful time as a family. I’m afraid that I am not a medic, just another cancer survivor. Most of us here are either cancer patients, or are looking after loved ones with cancer. Can I suggest that you contact the nurses on this site about whether or not your dad should be taking Nitrofuran.

You are right to question this, but you will get a more educated reply from the nurses. You can contact them by asking in the ‘Ask the Nurses’ section on the site or, if you want a speedier reply, you can telephone them on a freephone number, which makes it free to phone them from any UK landline. Their tel. no is:- 0808 800 4040.

I hope that you can get to the crux of what your father’s kidney problem is. His Care team are the people in the best position to answer this. Don’t be afraid to ask, if they don’t tell you. I also hope that you get a satisfactory answer about his medication.

Please keep in contact and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you, whenever you want to talk.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
