Bladder Cancer

Cancer cells returned again, for the 3rd time  1st time March 2017 2nd time Dec 2018 and now 3rd time Jan 2020 how many times can a person survive this disease

  • I am so sorry to hear that your bladder cancer is recurring. My father of 91 has just had his 1st operation to remove the cells. He is currently in hospital recovering, I do hope you beat this terrible thing once and for all.

  • Hi Mylo Thank you for your reply  I hope your father is recovering well , I will be 80 in April and have been living with cancer since 2001  it was Breast Cancer then, resulted in a double mastectomy, with no chemo or radiation, just Tamoxifin for 10 years, so  I know I have been really lucky to have survived, but I am worried my luck is running out  and  I'm struggling with how to face the future.

  • Oh Jeenie you have been through it haven't you. I can not imagine how you feel and I am so sorry for the worry this is causing you. I think it's the "not knowing" that causes the most stress. Although the cancer seems to be recurring, you are getting prompt treatment by the sounds of it and I hope they can stop it once and for all. Can you speak with your specialist and see if they can give you a better idea, of how things will go. xx

  • Hi Sue

I tried to get in touch with a urology nurse on friday, had to leave a message on an answer phone, hoping to speak to one tomorrow

  • That's good then, they are very good at returning calls, so hopefully you will feel better once you have spoken with them. The worst thing you can do is worry and although I know it can be very difficult not to. If you can try and keep your mind busy with other things, it will help give you some relief from the worrying.

  • Yes I know and I'm usually so positive just feel so sad about it  this time,  and your right best thing is to try and keep busy, hope to get some answers tomorrow, this is a good place to be as it helps having others to talk to.

  • Hi Jeenie

you really are being tested and I'm so sad to read your post it's about time you had a break.  I note you were on tamoxifen for ten years and wondered if the bladder cancer is linked?  I am due to go on tamoxifen and this is really worrying me due to the link of it causing cancer too.  Although I'm presuming whilst on tamoxifen one would be checked regularly everywhere.  I'm so confused and worried whether this drug is a positive or a negative.

  • Hi JBee

I was on tamoxifen for ten years ( and havnt heard any bad reports about it)  because I had a double mastectomy it is normally for 5 years, and  I was checked every year for the 10 years, I've not had to have any  follow up since..I think the best thing i did was to keep positive, I did worry  though you cant help it, I'm sorry I dont know if its connected to bladder cancer precisaly. it was 16 years later, when I  got this bladder cancer,  which started in my right ureter, and the op involved cutting the section out from were it was,  and then joining the ureter to the bladder.

Please speak to your team  about your worries,   they should be able to help, and trying to keep positive  is the key,  Hope everything goes ok for you.Sending huggggsss

  • Thanks Jean I really appreciate your input.  My appointment with oncologist is Monday so will decide then how I go forward.  I'm pretty sure I'll follow their advice, and I know if I have negative reactions they will look for solutions, so I just need to relax and I guess trust them .  I hope you well and wish you a lovely eeekend
