Bisphosphonates - Oral Drug - prevention

I would like to ask if anyone is taking Bisphosphonates orally for prevention of secondary cancer after have triple negative breast cancer?

My mum last year was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer it was in her left breast and reached her lymph nodes. She has surgery and then extremely heavy doses of chemo and radio therapies. She has now finished treatment but has been recommended to take this drug as a prevention for bone cancer and secoundary cancer. It is available on the NHS as she was private so there are not many results or studies. We would like to find out if anyone has had side effects, benefits or problems with the drug.

Your help would be very very much appreciate.

thank you xxx

  • I'm sorry to hear your mum was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer Mummyclarke but I'm glad to hear she has come through her surgery and finished her chemo and radiotherapy.

Hopefully you will hear from others who have had experience of this soon but I just wanted to let you know that you can also look for previous discussions about this by using the 'search forum' option above. I have found some information about bisphosphonates, including the side effects that may occur, on our website as well if you want to have a look.

You can also discuss this with our cancer nurses if you like. They are available Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m on 0808 800 4040, which is free to call from a UK landline.

I hope this helps and you are able to get all the information you are seeking soon.

    All the best,
