Post menopausal bleeding can have a range of different causes and most won't be linked to cancer but the important thing is that this is going to be investigated. You can read more about post menopausal bleeding here.  As well as a thickened uterine lining being a possible cause other things like polyps in the cervix, fibroids or thinning or inflammation in the vagina can also cause bleeding.

I think you mean that you are waiting now to have a hysteroscopy where they can take a closer look at your uterus and take biopsies. The NHS website has some information on having a hysteroscopy here.

I can appreciate that it is an anxious time, but it is not possible to presume anything at the moment until more is known.
