Biopsy results for High risk HPV (cancerous cells)

hello everyone,

i hope someone can help me..

I am 25 and had my first ever smear test on 20th March my results then come back around the 20th April with high risk HPV, I got a letter from the hospital to go in for a colposcopy on 20th May. I went for this today and it was the worst experience Ever!!! After examining my cervix and placing the dye thing on there a lot of the cells showed up around my cervix, I was then told I will have to have a biopsy to determine if the cells could be cancerous.

I am so worried now as the nurses didn’t really say many positive things..

how long does a biopsy take to come back and do they come back faster if there is something wrong?

Pleaae help me ease my mind as 4 weeks for results seems so crazy to me!

Thank you so much in advance!

  • Hi Monxox,

The length of time to wait for results can differ from case to case. I know it can be difficult, but try not to worry. It might put you more at ease to contact your consultant and ask them to address these concerns, it may help you feel better. There are also some useful tips here to help you cope with the wait.

    Best wishes,
