Biopsy advice

Hi

I have a lump under my armpit which my GP believes is Lymphoma. I know they can't diagnose until I have my ultrasound and biopsy so not panicking.

I am looking for advice as to whether having the biopsy under local is ok or whether people advise general?

Cheers in advance,

sUk

  • Hi sUk and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to hear that you're waiting for some tests but it's good to know that you're not letting this panic you. Waiting for tests and results can be a difficult time.

You usually have a local anaesthetic for swollen lymph nodes close to the surface of your body that are easy to reach. Your doctor gives you an injection to numb the area around the lymph node. You usually have a general anaesthetic for lymph nodes that are deeper in your body.

Have you had an appointment with the Consultant yet to discuss a biopsy etc? If not then it might be a good idea to write down all your concerns and questions about the procedure so that you can ask at the appointment. If it would help to talk to someone before this then do give our team of nurses a call on 0808 800 4040 (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm). I'm sure that they would be happy to give you some advice and information.

I hope that you don't have to wait too long for your tests and the results. Do keep in touch and let us know how things go.

    Best wishes,
