Biopsy

Hi,

I found a lump/swollen lymph node over a month ago.

I've been referred for a scan and a biopsy.

(I think the consultant said it would be done with anesthetic and a needle)

Just wanted to know if anyone could fill me in on the procedure and what to expect.

Also wanted to know if I'll require some sort of stitching or bandage...not really told anyone so needed to know in terms of avoiding friends and family and not going into work etc on the day/after.

Thanks in advance :)

  • Hi,

It sounds like you are having an ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration biopsy (I've had two). They use the ultrasound to find the swollen lymph node and then use a needle to aspirate a small sample from the node/lump. It only takes a few seconds, it's no more painful than an injection and only leaves a pin *** so won't need a stitch or dressing (unless it draws blood in which case they may put a plaster on it).

Good luck and I hope your results bring good news.
