Better diet, etc

Does anyone have any tips or suggestions on how diet or lifestyle change can help treatment and recovery from breast cancer?

not particularly looking at alternative therapies but if they're complimentary to modern medicine then that's fine!

extra vitamin c, cutting out sugar, cutting out alcohol, etc?

cheers

  • Hi Peter,

Just do what feels right for you. The old-fashioned advice to do everything in moderation (except smoking or taking Class A drugs!) makes more sense than ever. Eat a healthy diet with plenty of fruit, salad and vegetables, avoid too much salt and processed foods, reduce the amount of fat and oil you eat, keep an eye on your weight and get plenty of exercise.

There's so much rubbish advice out there that it's sometimes hard to know which to follow.

    Cheers

    Dave

  • Sounds like very sound advice Dave thanks

  • I used to eat crap all of the time, on the day of diagnoses I started to eat fruit and veg, only small amounts. Over the next two years I slowly removed anything bad, and replaicng it with fruit or veg. I also cut out table sugar, im still working on the salt.

Fat is not really that much of a concern.

    My diet is:

    Breakfast: Muesli, Banana

    Snack: Fruit

Lunch: Roll which has veg, mainly chicken, try to avoid red meats.

    Snack: Nuts, fruit.

Dinner: Chicken, fish or red mean with potatos and lots and lots of veg.

    Snack: Fruit, yougurt.

It's not perfect and I still have a fry up, packet of crisp or fish and chips every now and then, but I stay away from sugar. Drink maybe a couple of times a year. I lost nearly a stone just from cutting out sugar.

Hey the cancer is not back so far so I can only assume it works.:)

    Best of luck to you.

  • Thanks for that

i think that's the key really is just a well balanced common sense diet!
