Being referred to the oncologist

Just a brief history,  I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer last July which resulted in removing the lymph nodes as the cancer had spread to them .

They did a bone scan and CT scan to see if it had spread elsewhere,  the bone scan showed nothing but the CT scan showed a lung nodule,  they told me I'd need another CT scan , which I had in March of this year,  they rang me with the results and told me I'd need another CT scan 3 mo the later as the nodule haf changed .

I had the CT scan at the end of May and almost 4 weeks later I'm still waiting for the results (I usually receive them within 2 weeks) so this morning I left a message for the BCN to enquire about my results,  I received a telephone call back saying I'm being referred to the oncologist to go through the results with me and they will phone once there is am appointment.

Now I know that can't be good news , surely the oncologist isn't going to say "hey all clear"?

I'm now worrying and waiting for an appointment

  • Hello EINaGu,

It's normal to be worried as you are waiting to find out more about these important results. I can understand why this is causing you so much anxiety especially if you normally receive them within 2 weeks and you are still waiting 4 weeks on. You did well to leave a message and to try and chase these results. At least you know now that you are being referred to the oncologist. I hope that you find out soon when the appointment might be as it must be really hard for you not to have a date yet. I know it's really hard but try not to anticipate what it all means or what the oncologist will say.

All you can do for now is wait which really is the hardest thing. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. You can find helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that you will find out when your appointment is very soon and that they give you reassuring news.

    Best wishes,

  • Thank you .

I now have a date, the 6th July I can only hope its not the news I'm expecting,  but I figure if I automatically think its bad news then I'll either be prepared or be pleasantly surprised by the results
