Axillary node clearance

I had a node clearance a few weeks ago and still have limited mobility and pain. Is this normal?

  • I have also been very tearful! I has micro changes in my sentinel node so was advised to have a full clearance. Results showed that all the remaining nodes were clear! Think the shock of the operations, lumpectomy and clearance has left me feeling very vulnerable.

  • hi maggiemoo

I didn't have complete clearance but had a mastectomy and sentinel node taken.

I think what you describe is perfectly normal for the operation you have had.It took around 6 weeks for me to regain complete use of my arm without any pulling or pain.

You must give yourself time and equally I can't stress how important it is to do the excerises they have given you to do.

It will get better but you can't rush yourself these things take time. The important thing is they have got that nasty out of you!

I also had times where I felt angry, tearful, vulnerable, depressed. It's early days and you are most likely still in shock from it all.

I just wanted to say I understand and I'm here to talk If you wish to

    take care

    Ness x

  • Thank you Ness! I was relieved when the results came back all clear, as you can imagine! I was reluctant to have the op as many surgeons don't perform full clearance when only the sentinel node shows microscopic changes but felt like I hasn't to make a quick decision. Wish there was a way of detecting infected nodes as the operation would not have been necessary! I have dumped the dairy now. I can't believe that only 1/100,000 women in china get bc compared to the uk stats of 1/9 !!!! Feel like this has given me a bit if control and hope!

  • Yes I bet you did-and what great news.My node was also clear when tested so I was relieved.

That is some interesting statistics!! I really wish I had the will power to give up dairy but I'm an avid cheese fan.I have to say in reality my diet is pretty rubbish...

    perhaps I will have a read x
