Awaiting Results, dad showing signs of lung cancer

Hello

I am posting about my dad who has lost lots of weight in a small amount of time, has a persistent cough, loss of appetite etc... all the classic worrying signs of lung cancer.

So he was taken into hospital and given a chest x ray but they couldnt see anything due to a large infection in his right lung but a week ago today he had a ct scan which we were told the results would be sent back to his gp who requested the ct scan.

We haven't heard anything yet so mum asked me to ring and see what the latest was so on calling radiology it turns out that his results have infact been passed to a respiatory consultant at the hospital who turns out to be part of the Mdt team that deals with lung cancer and Mesothelioma. Obviously this has worried us no end as we now are jumping to all sorts of conclusions that we are about to be told the worst.

Just really looking to see if this is a indication that something bad has been found, we are worried that it has gone to results will be sent to his gp to all of a sudden they have gone to this lead consultant.

Thanks

  • A very warm welcome to the Cancer Chat community Emski although I'm sorry to hear about your dad and for the worry this latest development is causing.

Unfortunately no-one here can say what this means, but I'm sure many of our members who have been in this position will understand what you and your family are going through at the moment and hopefully you will receive some support and advice from them soon.

I know it's difficult, but try not to think the worst if you can. Hopefully the tips and advice given in this article on how to cope with waiting for news will help but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, they're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

    Best wishes to you both,
