Arm/chest/armpit pain

Hi all, I'm looking for some advice

Around October last year I started getting on and off chest pains. Nothing bad but I went to the doctors and they sent me for a blood test but advised to see if it improved. They didnt, and bloods came back normal so they advised again to monitor but ask for an ECG if no improvement. Over Christmas, the pains did improve but I still had them so I went for an ECG. Whilst waiting for that, which was start of February this year, I had a week of the pains back to the same they were and a weird lightheaded/out of it feeling. The doctor saw me and sent me for an urgent referral for an echocardiogram. The appointment was made for middle of March (last week) but whilst waiting for that, I began experiencing arm pains/ache and I thought I found a lump in my armpit. False alarm, I had an examination and nothing there (which was reassuring). The lightheadedness went away as I started taking an iron spray as I am anemic so wondered if it was that, and it did help.

I had the echo last week and everything was fine. I'm still experiencing the chest and arm pains, I'd say the arm pains are actually worse than the chest pains now. I spoke to the doctor and I've pushed to have a chest xray which I'll go for this week as it's a walk in clinic. This morning, I've woken up and my armpit feels quite swollen. If I press on the skin right next to my armpit above my breast, it hurts. I don't have any lumps, I can't feel anything odd but it's all been causing me quite a bit of health anxiety. Im only 23 but I have an extensive family history of cancer so you can imagine where my mind is taking me.

Im just wondering if anyone has had any similar experiences and could share what has happened to them. I am going for all the tests and stuff but with the way things are with the NHS at the moment I feel like I'm getting nowhere and things are getting worse.

  • Hi Bare000,

sorry to hear what you are experiencing, I have an appointment with my GP on Wednesday as I too am experiencing chest pain! Have you heard back as of yet?

  • Hi Avi26

I only had the chest x-ray this morning and results should be sent to my doctors by early next week. Hoping it's nothing bad, maybe some chest wall pain or an infection but whatever it is it needs sorting. Hopefully you'll have a productive GP appointment, you know your body best so make sure you tell them everything they need to know. Good luck
