Anyone’s low grade smear test turned out high at colposcopy?

Hi

smear result low grade dyskaryosis and positive HPV.

me again. Still worrying. Especially now I have a six week wait for the colposcopy!!! Got the appointment today. That’s over two months from original smear.

I just have a bad feeling that it’s worse than the smear says.

Have been having heavier more frequent periods since having the copper coil last year. Just put it down to a side effect of that.

I booked the smear without getting a reminder as I had a nagging feeling something is wrong.

So that’s the question. Has anyone had a low grade dyskaryosis smear result that turned out worse at colposcopy?

Thank you. Katie.

  • Hey there,

Sorry to hear you're still worried.  Fingers crossed for you given your 'bad feeling' sometimes we do just know stuff about ourselves instinctively.  I'm hoping for you that you're wrong obviously, but given your worry maybe see if you can push for a cancellation?  You can only ask.

    All the best,

    LJx

  • What is wrong with me hay?

i have asked. They said I’m the lowest band urgency of the referrals so just have to wait. Just like everyone else. Which is the way it should be. And this should be good news anyway.

    Xxx

  • Not at all, you're being too hard on yourself.  We all suffer from different levels of anxiety and worry.  What they've said is really good news, but yeah, it's hard not to worry especially as there is something very pleasing about just 'getting it removed'.

Hope it all gets done soon.

  • Hello!

I would just like to put your mind at ease, about a month ago I was diagnosed with the exact same thing as you low grade with HPV virus detected, this was my first ever smear test and scared the hell out of me, I literally cried for a week straight no exaggeration.. anyway I booked an appointment with my GP to talk about my smear results and she encouraged me to ring the hospital to try and get a cancellation for my colposcopy. I called them up and they managed to get me a cancellation so within 2 weeks of finding out my results I had my colposcopy I don’t think I could have waited for 6 weeks, I would try to get a cancellation :)

with regards to the colposcopy I PROMISE you there is nothing to worry about, the nurses are the most loveliest people I have EVER met, they make you feel comfortable and do not judge you at all. The examination itself does not hurt in the slightest it’s just a bit embarrassing that’s all.

Within 2 weeks of having my colposcopy my results came back, I want to reassure you that although abnormal cells have been found it’s nothing to worry about. My results come back from the biopsy taken that I have no CIN at all and they will do a repeat smear and HPV text in a year. So please don’t worry as I put myself through hell for a week crying and worrying when your results can also come back as no cin at all! I hope this has put your mind at rest and if you want some more advice on anything please message me :)

  • Hi there, that's an amazing story. I'm happy for you!

I'm currently awaiting results from a colposcopy/biopsy. I'm so worried, can barely sleep! It's awful. I have some questions to ask you though. When you first got your results from your original smear test. did it say you had high-rise HPV and low risk dyskaryosis? That's what mine said. Also in the colposcopy did the doctor mention/show you roughly how much of your cervix had abnormal cells?

I'm trying to predict my results! Can't help it!!!

  • Hey!

i hope you are well :)

If I’m being honest I can’t remeber if high risk HPV was mentioned on the original smear letter, however upon searching the internet which is the worst thing to do, it is mentioned that HIgh risk HPV is what causes CIN and cell changes in the cervix. My results from my Smear test stated that I had low grade dyskaryosis and HPV, my colposcopy showed HPV with no CIN.

During the Colposcopy the lovely nurses did show me my cervix on the screen and showed me how much of my cervix had been affected

It has now been a year on and I have had my results from my second colposcopy.. I couldn’t believe what my results were, they stated that I had Cleared the HPV and no HIgh Risk HPV was found and I had cleared it from my system and I had CIN1. They have discharged me from hospital and said to go back to my doctors within a year and to have a smear to check my CIN. I made sure I took daily vitamins every day and I’m thinking this helped me to clear the virus, I have a pretty good immune system and very rarely get sick so not sure if this had something to do with clearing it! If you want to donknow what vitamins I took let me know :)

But please please please do nont worry and drive yourself crazy like I did for a year, HPV is not forever you will clear it with a good immune system! Xxx

  • Hi there, thank you so much for your response!

That does make absolute sense! I hope I can clear it because I barely get colds hahaha wondering if my immune system is decent! I'm so glad yours went well! That's promising.

When they showed you your cervix, was there many abnormal cells? In mine, they showed me and told me that the cells were spread across most of my cervix, which I find daunting!!!!

  • Hey there, what were your results?!?!

    Hope you are well :)

  • hey!

Youre more than welcome. I hope it’s made you feel a little better as I know talking to people who have been or are going through the same thing helped so much!

On my first colposcopy she showed me and she said it was a tiny area and she would be surprised if it even turned out to be CIN1 (at the time after my results come back from that I didn’t hav CIN1 only inflammation) but my most recent one in June she said that was an area that looked abnormal but didn’t show me! My results come back with CIN1 for that one and I’m hoping they return to normal after another year as I no longer have HPV (fingers crossed(

Please let me know how your results go and I’m praying for you everything is ok! If you need to to ask anything else you know where I am xxxx

  • Hi I just read what you had gone through I’m too now in the same position ‍♀️

What vitamins did you take pls ?
