My 79year old mother has been diagnosed with stage 4 gallbladder cancer. She has no wish to know anything about it and has refused chemotherapy, so no treatment either. What are her chances of survival? Please any advice would be great.

HI Diandal.
I'm not a doctor and I had to look up this information. Gall bladder cancer is very rare.
I'm sorry, but according to the Cancer Research pages on this particular cancer, the outlook is not at all good. Stage 4 is the most advanced form of cancer; it means that the cancer has spread away from the main site to different parts of the body. The same page says that on average only 5% of people with this diagnosis are still alive after 5 years, and presumably this is after treatment for most of them.
As your mother is refusing treatment, I think the focus now will be making sure your mother is comfortable for her remaining time.
I can understand how upsetting this will be for you and it breaks my heart to type it. When you're ready, you can read about gall bladder cancer here: http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/gallbladder-cancer
This site exists for people who are affected by cancer whether as carers or sufferers to share their hopes, fears, frustrations, and often anger. Feel free to ask for help, or even just vent, at any time.
Hi Diandal
I'm sorry, but I'm not a doctor and I really don't know what your mother can expect. You need to talk to her consultants about this, plus also what in the way of palliative or hospice care is available.
Hi Diandal, I'm really sorry to hear about your mum.
As telemando says, the people best placed to answer your questions are her medical team.
We also have a team of cancer information nurses who are here to talk, if you'd like to chat with them. You can reach them on 0808 800 4040 (Mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm).
Hopefully someone with experience of this cancer will be along to share some thoughts on this soon, too.
Wishing you all the best in the meantime.
