Any advice on taking tablet form Xeloda?

I have read the instructions for the tablet form and they seem rather scary.  Any tips please?

  • Hi Yorkii, and welcome to Cancer Chat!

I spotted some information about Xeloda (Capecitabine) on our website, so I thought I'd share it with you in case its of help.

I'm sure somebody who has experience of this treatment will be along soon to share their tips but, in the meantime, if you'd like to talk to one of our information nurses you can reach them on: 0808 800 4040 (Mon - Fri, 9am - 5pm).

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Yorkii,

I was on Capecitabine (aka Xeloda) for a few months - the list of possible side effects makes horrendous reading but try to remember these are only possible side effects. Some lucky people none of these and most of us only have a few of them. They made me feel generally cr@ppy, some nausea and tiredness were my main symptoms and my white cell count was lowered slightly, so I nicknamed them cr@ppycitabine.

The good news is that these side effects clear up within days of chemo ending and in my case the chemo was very effective and well worth the limited side effects.

My only tip is to talk to your named nurse about any side effects you may experience as soon as they present. I soldiered on for a month before mentioning them which was a mistake as the meds I was then given to counteract the side effects made life much easier.

    Good luck!

    Dave
