Any advice from personal experience?

I am 42, mum of 2 boys, 6 and 3. Last year j had a hysterectomy and have been on HRT since.

Ifound a lump in my armpit in September. I finally went to the GP on 1 Oct and he said after examining it that as it is soft and rubbery, it is likely to be benign but referred me to breast screening anyway.

I had my appointment on 15 Oct and had a screening, mammogram, ultrasound and biopsies taken along with blood tests for various cancer markers. The consultant said breast was clear but get the lump in the armpit checked and therefore all the tests.

I had called the Secretary earlier this week abd she told me that an MDT meeting is taking place on Thursday (today) and that I will be informed of the next course of action and line of treatment etc after that.

When I asked her about the blood results she said that they were in but she wasn't authorised to let me know and that it would be discussed as a part of the meeting.

I was looking for assurance I guess but I didn't get any.

I don't even know if this MDT meeting is routine for all (positive and negative cases) or not. I didn't hear anything from them today and I don't even know if I will tomorrow.

the waiting is really hard as I go from one emotion to the other and not being on HRT, my anxiety is really bad and my feel Traumatised.

From personal experience, can anyone shed any light on the process at all?

    Hi HarmOn,

Welcome to our forum. This is always a particularly traumatic time waiting for results. It varies from one clinic to another, but most results come back within 1-2 weeks. The MDT meeting is a routine meeting between the consultant and the rest of his/her multidisciplinary team, who would undertake your care if you had a positive diagnosis. Between them they decide the best way forward for all people who are tested, irrespective of the results. This is because some benign lesions may need to be removed occasionally too.

I have had 2 bouts of breast cancer in the past 11 years and, can assure you that, irrespective of the outcome, you will feel better in yourself once you know the results. It may be a few days yet before you hear from the consultant, but I do hope that it will be good news.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thanks for your response, it has been reassuring. Can't begin to think what your journey has been like, you are an amazing warrior.

My biopsy results are still pending so I am now on next week's MDT. Fingers crossed I should find out next week, one way or other, as you said, I will a lot better once I know the outcome, whatever that might be.

    thanks x

    Hi HarmOn,

    Here's hoping for good results!

Don't forget to let us know the outcome.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • I finally had my appointment with the consultant yesterday. There's no breast cancer or lymphoma. There's a possibility of toxoplasmosis that causes swollen lymph nodes and I have been referred to another consultant. Relieved it's not cancer. Thank you all x
