Anal Tumour

I was diagnosed with an anal tumour in June this year. I had been self medicating for what I thought was piles.

I began my treatment on 25th September for a period of 5 and half weeks.

Week 1 radiotherapy/chemotherapy combined

Weeks 2 to 4 Radiotherapy

Week 5 radiotherapy/chemotherapy combined

The radiotherapy has been fairly fierce and caused constipation which then has caused dreadful pain whilst passing stools. I use sachets of powder which dissolve in water and this really helps.

I finish my treatment in just over a week and have been advised that recovery from treatment is usually 2 weeks.

Has anyone else experienced all of this?

  • Hey John sorry to hear u got anal cancer my sister has bowel cancer she experiences the same and some after her rounds of treatment which sachets r u using if i can ask?

Try asking if u can drink warm liquid s like herbal infusions they help soften t stools a bit but u need to be careful cause some herbs may be dangerous so best to ask ur consultant first my sis can have some and they seem to help when she's constipated

  • Hi John

I was diagnosed with a T2 anal tumour  in August I've just completed 28 radiotherapy sessions along  with oral chemo twice a day.

like you I found week 4/5 the worst in respect of the radiotherapy very very sore and itchy but luckily I didn't suffer any constipation. The nurse at the hospital did advise that my symptoms would get worse before they got better and this could take about 2/3 weeks post finishing treatment.

I was given morphine infused gel which I found really helped along with slow release morphine tablets. It's now nearly 2 weeks since I've finished the treatment and to be honest really struggled with the pain and discomfort when going to the loo however this has now begun to get easier.

I don't know about you but I am very very tired but then find getting to sleep difficult.

I am waiting for my follow up apt which should be in about 5/6 weeks and to he honest an feeling quite isolated just now  think it's not having a daily routine to adhere to! I just want to get my results and get back to some sort of normality.

Wishing you all the best for your next few weeks of treatment and hopefully a speedy recovery thereafter.

    kind regards Sandra
