Anal burning/stomach issues

Hi there, I need a bit of advice because I've been having a few problems for about a month now and don't seem to be getting much joy out of the doctors.

I am a 28 year old male and about a month and a half ago I found myself with some pain during ejaculation and rectal burning which upon research seemed to be suggest an issue with the prostate. I went to the doctor's, got checked out and they said there seemed to be no problem with the prostate, to my relief. A week or so later I was still having problems with rectal burning now accompanied with what seemed to be some minor pains in my stomach. Upon a bit more research I've come to find that some of these symptoms seem to be relatable to colon cancer and possibly bowel cancer. I have been checking my toilet habits and have found I am passing about 3/4 times a day (which seems to be normal for me as I believe I suffer from IBS which hasn't be confirmed by a doctor), the stool doesn't seem to be quite a hard as it used to be and a little more misshapen now, there is no blood in my stool or urine as I have been checking and I don't seem to be losing any weight or dealing with fatigue or anything so I'm really not sure what to think. I'm trying to get in to my doctor's again to get rechecked but does this sound like anything to worry about?

Currently my rectum is still burning, I cannot tell whether the burning is at the entrance or coming from within, and I still have the stomach issues.

Please help. Thank you.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I’m sorry you are worried about your health.

Bowel symptoms or changes at your age are much more likely to be caused by ordinary everyday problems that people may get from time to time. This can often be related to a change in diet, food intolerance and sensitivities and viral infections. Stress and anxiety can also cause changes in bowel habit as can IBS, which can start at any time. You can read more about IBS here. Bowel symptoms are also  very common and usually settle down over time.

It sounds as if your doctor has taken your symptoms seriously as they have assessed you. We always encourage people to go back and speak to their doctor if their symptoms are not improving or if they develop new symptoms.

You may find it helpful to know that more than 85 out of 100 bowel cancers (85%) are diagnosed in people aged 60 or over.

I hope things improve soon. If we can help in any other way please do contact us again. If you would prefer to speak to one of the nurses directly, you can telephone us on 0808 800 4040.  We are here from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
