Am I worrying for nothing?

Hi everyone,

Thank you for taking the time to read this :)

I've been under investigation for lymphoma recently after having generalized itching for over 6 months and what felt like swollen nodes in my neck.

I had a CT scan of my neck, chest, abdomen and pelvis which came back normal. The nodes in my neck were slightly enlarged but all less than 1cm and did not look suspicious so the doctors were not concerned and said they think it is unlikely I have any haematological malignancy - (I presume this is why they didn't proceed with a biopsy).

I also had routine bloods taken and all came back normal. Initially my LDH was slightly elevated but I had it repeated and it came back well within normal parameters.

I have another follow up in 4 months and they have said if everything is normal they will discharge me back to my GP.

I have suffered with mild night sweats on and off for a number of years now (I also have another autoimmune condition) but in the past few months they have become a lot more frequent, nearly every night. I wouldn't describe them as a drenching, my bed sheets aren't visibly wet but my clothes and bedsheets feel damp to touch.

I've mentioned this to the haematologist, but again, they've said they're not concerned because they're not 'drenching'.

I can't help but worry that there is something sinister hiding that they've missed because I know that night sweats are another common symptom of lymphoma, but at the same time I keep thinking that if there was, surely it would've been picked up on the CT?

Any advice would be appreciated :)

  • Hi im the same as you been going since October first chest pain for a 1 month then swollen groin and neck nodes January had a biopsy on neck came back reactive.. White blood count 8.4 now back down to 5.5.. Monocytes think slight high. But all within the normal range according to gp.. Then the itching started.. My nodes in groin have went away now though.. Thinking of going private to see a haematologist/scan.. Already seen haematologist through nhs there not concerned neither is gp.. But gp can refer me if i want will find out next week once if get another check over.. Gp got to tell me though about radio from scan.. Not sure what to do im the same as you.. No other symptoms going on for 8 months

  • Hi Mandyarty,

Thanks for taking the time to reply :)

Yes it's very frustrating, when people don't seem to take your symptoms seriously but I think most people know their own body and know when something is up. I almost think it's worse in a way when they tell you it's 'probably nothing' and can't offer a proper explanation for why these things happen!

Unfortunately my night sweats are getting worse. They have literally just woken me up again but this time I have been so wet / clammy I've had to change clothes. It sounds silly but I'm not sure if it's just my memory foam mattress / bedding causing it though I don't feel particularly warm when I wake up and my partner never experiences this. I just have a bad feeling and I'm so anxious about it!

  • I know ive got alot of anxiety through it all was never like that before. You should go back to gp but defo sounds reassuring youve had a scan. Ive just had a biopsy no scan just ultrasound with mild vascularity. Got gp next week for check over im going to get a referral and go private 2nd opinion with haematologist
