Hi, k'spartner, welcome and sorry to hear why you are here.  I have had this diagnosis too, along with other things.  I had my hysterectomy last September and refused radiotherapy then chemo for the reason that I am in my 70s, live alone and just did not feel strong enough.  I am taking a hormone tablet that will give me quality rather than quantity of life.  I am sure that your partner, having your support, will do well on the chemo.  Please make sure that you ask as many questions as you can so that you know exactly what you are facing.

Sorry to hear about your partners recent ESS diagnosis, I too have ESS but in the low grade slow growing form. I had a hysterectomy 9 years ago but the ESS went undetected and I have only been diagnosed for 8 months, I wish you both all the best in the coming months regarding the hysterectomy and treatments, a very kind lady told me about a closed American based yahoo group (you have to ask to join) whose knowledge and experiences of low grade and high grade ESS is invaluable, the group is called endometrialstromalsarcoma (one word, I think) I am sure there will be  members will have experiences of high grade ESS that they can share. There are a few hundred members from all around the world. Thinking about you both.

Like Nicola I was low grade ESS but I can also recommend the Yahoo group for any queries you may have re treatment. The ladies there have experience on the different variations of this disease. I hope your partner has responded well to her treatment.
