Advice please - just moved back to UK after biopsy..

Hi

Im just looking for some advice and hoping someone can help please? Sorry if this is long winded !

A couple of months ago I found a breast lump, I was living in Spain and went to my Dr, they referred me for a mammogram and blood tests, I had blood tests 5 weeks ago and still no results. I received a mammogram appointment for a few weeks later at the hospital and went along where after the mammogram they called me back into the room and did an ultrasound. After the ultrasound they called in a dr who said she had found two lumps and should have biopsies done immediately, it was all very scary as my Spanish isn't great so I just agreed and had the biopsies done.

I was told it would be three weeks until I got the results, I'm at the end of week two and have just moved back to the U.K. as my mum is ill and I came to care for her. I received a call today asking me to go back to Spain for an Appointment at the General Surgery department in the hospital , they would not give me any further information and the appointment is not until 19 April.

I have registered with a DR here but cannot get an appointment to see them even after explaining and the receptionist told me that the DR cannot do anything unless I have my results. I spoke to the breast screening centre and they said to go the appointment in Spain and try to get all of my results but I'm just worried about all of this waiting ( initial appointment was Feb 10th and I still know nothing) and nothing happening, any advice on what I can do please as currently going out of my mind! X

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am very sorry to hear about your situation, this must be a worry for you.

Waiting for tests results can be difficult and it seems that you have a lot going at the moment with your mum being unwell and moving back to the UK. However, until you know if you have cancer can more be done about this. Get your results; by a face to face appointment or I wonder if they can arrange a telephone call ( but that might be more difficult if they speak Spanish and yours is not that good).

As you have been advised by the breast screening team bring or get sent all your medical notes, scan and biopsy results. Then, if you're diagnosed with cancer make a GP appointment in the UK. You will then be referred to the breast cancer team at your local hospital.  However, you may have to wait for this appointment and this could take at least a couple of weeks. I don't think there is a way around this.

I know you are worried that this whole process is taking too long, and if you do find out you have cancer I'm a afraid that no one can say if it will make your situation worse but it will not necessarily do.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
