Advice on tongue lump please

I discovered a hard pea sized lump on the front right hand side of my tongue about 3 weeks ago and having initially dismissed it, I finally went to the GP about it this morning. I have no idea how long it was there before then as it does not hurt, is not ulcerated and I’m not ‘aware’ of it in my mouth like other swellings such as after you have bitten your tongue etc.

My GP has told me to go and see my dentist because she doesn’t know what it could be and I have none of the risk factors for oral cancer (I have never smoked and only drink a little). She has said that if it doesn’t go away or the dentist doesn’t know what it is then she may refer me.

  • Hi,

You are doing the right thing by going to get it checked by the dentist. I have an ear pain that was on and off for a long time then 5 weeks ago it became constant with antibiotics, drops and sprays not helping. The reason I'm saying this is because I made an appointment with the dentist and she spotted a thickening on the back side of my tongue and has made a 2 week referral for a biopsy. Wish I had gone to the dentist in the first place!  My only advice is do not Google and take each day as it comes. I have made my stress levels unmanageable by not following that advice.
