advice on employers sick pay

Hi I have recently been diagnosed with cancer in the breast and lymph nodes and due to start treatment in a couple of weeks. i am employed but its only a small company and we dont have a hand book so i am unaware what the sick pay will be. I am taking 1 year of work so obviously finances are a concern. My employer said they will let me know this week what my sick pay will be but i just wanted to ask what kind of structure other employers offer so i have an idea of what i feel they should be offering me. Its only a small company with around 30 employees

sick pay varies. Greatly! Some employers offer very generous contractual sick pay. One of my clients offers 6 months full pay followed by 3 months half.
However, other clients don’t offer any contractual (company) sick pay at all and will only pay SSP in the event of sickness.
You might also have to ‘qualify’ for contractual sick pay (most employers dont pay it out until you have a certain amount of service under your belt).
I am interested in their response I.E they’ll let you know what your entitlement is.
