Advanced prostate diagnosis

Hi there

could do with some honest feedback please.  My father (age 71) was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer that has unfortunately spread to sternum and had to have a stent in his kidney.  No treatment option other than hormone therapy.  Gleason score is 5+4 and PSA 127, which has now come down to 81 ( still massively high).  U fortunately he then had a massive heart attack a week later, which was a massive shock as never has any probs with his heart ever!  Could it be linked??  Is now at home,  it very breathless, has horrendous cough and is very depressed.  Me and my mum are trying to be upbeat but it is very difficult.  Dad seems to think he will die quite soon??  How do we respond to that??

  • Welcome to Cancer Chat MissAdg.

I'm so sorry about the heart attack your dad had recently. I can't imagine how scary that must have been but I'm glad he's now recovering back at home.

If you're concerned that this may be connected with the hormone therapy then do be sure to have a chat with his medical team as they will be in the best position to answer this and any other questions playing on your mind at the moment.

We have a few prostate cancer members here on the forum so fingers crossed some of them will pop by soon for a chat now I've replied to your post.

    Best wishes to you all,

  • Hi Steph, thanks for replying.  My dad has become very unwell this week and drs hav3 done more tests. He is anaemic but they’ve also said his CRP markers are raised.  Don’t know what this means??
