Advanced endometrial cancer

Hi I have advanced endometrial cancer and have told it is incurable and there is nothing they can do for me except offer palliative care.
I have advanced ascites which no longer responds to draining. The abdominal bloating and pain, causing pressure on the stomach and pain in the lower back, prevents me eating all but tiny portions. I am always hungry. Medication is not adequately dealing with the pain. I feel quite hopeless. Has anyone experienced any of these problems and how do you cope with this devastating condition? Looking forward to hearing how others are coping.

Best wishes x

  • Hello Hebe,

I am so sorry to hear you have advanced endometrial cancer and that the advanced ascites no longer responds to draining. Poor you it is a shame too that this is preventing you from eating and you need to have tiny portions. I think it is important that you get the painkilling medication changed or adjusted if you feel that it is not adequately dealing with the pain. Do talk to your doctor or medical team about all these issues and whether there is anything they can do to help you feel a bit more comfortable and for the pain to be under control.

I hope that you will also hear from other members of our forum who have had to deal with ascites before and that they will be along shortly to share their experience with you. I had a little look around the forum for you and found this thread for example by [@K-Lucy] who has posted before about ascites or [@Auds2951]‍ on the same thread. Don't hesitate to respond on that thread if you would like to talk to others who have been through something similar before.

Feel free also to give our nurses a call too if you would like to talk things through with them - their line is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.

I hope you manage to talk to a medical expert very soon  about how you've been feeling and that they will have some good suggestions for you so that things improve and you don't have to be in so much pain and discomfort.

    Best wishes,
