Actual lump at back of throat

Hello, first time on here :)

Saw my GP yesterday as I have found a lump at back of my throat just behind my tonsils. GP had a good look at it but couldn't see all of it so he has referred me to get a camera down throat to get a better look. 70-80% sure it's nothing to worry about (the worrier in me isn't focused on that though!) It's a bit painful to swallow and it hurts occasionally depending which way I turn my head.

I've tried searching online for other possibilities to try put my mind at ease until the appointment but I can only find information regarding 'feeling a lump'(but there isn't one) and throat cancer.

Any suggestions on what else it could be is greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

  • Hi Vixi,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. Unfortunately no-one here can really advise on what it might be. The best thing is to wait for your next appointment and results - although I know the waiting and uncertainty is difficult.

Try to avoid searching online if you can - it is rarely helpful, not specific to you, and often gives worst case scenarios.

Try to keep busy and distracted if you can, until you find out more. Also make a note of any questions you may have to ask at your next appointment.

    Wishing you all the best,
