4 months post lumpectomy and 3 lymph nodes - what to expect

Hi

i had surgery for lumpectomy and 3 lymph nodes removed.  My breast is a different colour which I was told to expect but is swollen and bigger than the other one and warm.  I have been to see the cancer nurses 2 weeks ago and she said everything is normal but I'm still worried and concerned.  I have started yoga and pilates a while again now to keep fit.  I do my e excises now and again now but did them regularly before.  Is this normal to have a slightly red swollen breast at this stage.

Thank you. Await your reply.

  • Hi there ...

How long ago did you have your lumpectomy and lymph nodes taken .. after my masectomy it took a long while to get well enough to exorcise ... maybe you did that too early .. and the arm with lymph node removal takes even longer ...

If i were you I'd ring your oncology team and tell them about it being warm and swollen .. or your G P as you can get a fluid build up ... I had that about a couple of weeks after, and had it drained .. but I'm not qualified so you need medical advice ... but I'd deff stop over exercising it till seen ..

Hope that helps ... Chrissie x

  • Hi,

I had surgery for lumpectomy and 2 lymph nodes removed in September, 2017.

My breast is still a different colour it is lessening sligthly, it is also bigger, warmer and more swollen than the other one, apparently this is very normal, I have regular check-ups with the breast nurse and she assures me everything is normal. I know how worrying it is, but please do try not to worry, if the Breast Nurse says all fine you are fine, they know so much about breast cancer as they specialise in this area. I hope this helps you.
