13mm uterine wall measurement

Hi

I'm nearly 60yrs old & over last 6 months have had 4 UTI's, discomfort in my pelvic region (pulling & tightening which worsens when I stand for too long) & constant tickling/tingling sensation in my vaginal area. I was referred for ultrasound scan & internal scan which I had performed on 20th Mar 2021. A 2.5cm fibroid was found & my uterine wall measured 13mm. I was reassured there was nothing to worry about but after my Dr received scan results, I was immediately refered to Gynaecology & I attended appointment there on Mon 29th Mar 2021. I panicked as they wanted to do more internal examinations. Polyps on the cervix were mentioned (news to me) & I need hysteroscopy which terrifies me. I'm extremely afraid of any kind of internal procedure. I need to go back for this but have asked to be heavily sedated or have GA. I'm waiting on a response from hospital. Since then I've received literature mentioning cancer. I'm now utterly terrified. Why frighten me with this?

  • Hello Revilo,

Welcome to our forum! I can imagine this is an anxious time for you. It's good they are being really thorough though and hopefully it's just a matter of time now before you find out more. There is information on our website on the hysteroscopy which you can find on this page. It mentions that you should then hopefully get your results within two weeks.

I hope you can get the sedation you need to help you feel less anxious about it. Try not to think too much about the literature you received which mentions cancer. It definitely doesn't mean anything at this stage and is probably just generic information.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I know this is really difficult to do but it will help you feel a little less anxious.

I hope it all goes well for you and that the hysteroscopy goes smoothly. Hopefully you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
