Dr Jo Waller

Investigating cervical screening

At the UCL Department of Behavioural Science and Health Dr Jo Waller is investigating participation in cervical screening.

She aims to understand why women don’t always take up the invitation to go for screening, and develop ways of improving participation. She’s looking at whether women choose not to attend, or whether they aren’t attending due to lack of awareness, or practical reasons such as time constraints.

This understanding will help Dr Waller find ways to reduce barriers for those women who do want to take part. She will also develop ways to raise awareness of screening among women who don’t know about it. Dr Waller hopes to target interventions at the right groups to help more women attend tests.
