Community-based roles
Time commitment:
One day

Why we need you:

On Saturday 23rd September, 10,000 walkers will be walking 10k, a half- or full marathon to raise over an incredible £2 million for Cancer Research UK – but they need you to help them achieve their marathon challenge!

Having the amazing support and endless enthusiasm of some friendly faces truly makes Shine an unforgettable experience. Join the Shine Volunteer Team and help us to beat cancer.

What will I be doing?

At Shine we manage two crucial venues – the start and the finish – and we need your help to offer the support, attention and care to our participants that they need.  Love meeting new people and working as a team? Then this is the role for you!

There are all kinds of activities to get involved with; from putting up marquees and banners, replenishing stock or helping with our bag drop service, as well as cheering and directing walkers from the start line and celebrating their final few steps through the finish line.

‘The experience of doing something worthwhile with thousands of unselfish people was amazing. I shared their joy and pain and wish I could've stayed until the last person came through. A fantastic and fun time and I can't wait to volunteer again.’

Richard, Finish Venue Volunteer
