Why we need you.

Through research we are beating cancer. Step by step. Day by day. But beating cancer is a team effort and our research isn’t possible without you.

Right now, our Manchester Half Marathon participants are getting ready to take on the streets of Manchester to raise vital funds for research into preventing, diagnosing, and treating cancer.

Having the amazing support and endless enthusiasm of some friendly faces along the way truly makes for an unforgettable experience. Join the Manchester Half Marathon Volunteer Team and let's beat cancer together.

What might I be doing?

We are looking for positive, proactive, friendly people to get stuck into one of our many roles and help to create a truly memorable event. You might be:

  • Cheering on participants around the course

  • Helping support our participants with any questions or issues that may arise.

  • Giving out refreshments

  • Bucket collecting

What skills and attributes do I need to have?

We are looking for volunteers who are:

  • Organised - there might be a few different tasks we need your help with on the day.

  • Confident - we need you to be comfortable and happy with approaching members of the public.

  • Approachable - you’ll be the face of Cancer Research UK whilst volunteering with us.

  • Enthusiastic - when helping to spread the word about Cancer Research UK.

  • Flexible – sometimes things can change on the go or at the last minute, so being willing and able to adapt to support our event managers is vital.

What support will I be given?

Before the event, a member of our team will get in contact with you about the day and brief you in on what you will be doing and where to meet.

On the day you will be supported by the event team and other enthusiastic volunteers.

We’ll provide you with a volunteer t-shirt and some light refreshments, but you may want to bring extra snacks and drinks to keep you going.

Our cheer point volunteers will be provided with clappers, cheering sticks, whistles, and loud hailers to make you stand out from the crowd, and create an energetic atmosphere.

What benefits can I expect?

  • The satisfaction of making a vital difference to the life-saving work of Cancer Research UK and helping us to beat cancer.

  • An opportunity to learn valuable new skills to support personal and career development. For anyone looking to get into events management or the charity sector, this is a great way to get an insight as to what’s involved at sports events and also develop your experience.

  • Meet new people and help our inspirational runners to run harder and faster – they can’t do it without you.
