What will I be doing?

You will set up a dedicated area either within your workplace (or an area of your choice!) where your colleagues, friends and family can come and donate their unwanted items to be sold at your local Cancer Research UK shop. You’ll be given all the materials you need to prepare for the day (posters, donation bags, etc.) and you'll get a step by step guide to make sure you're perfectly equipped on the day.

You can organise the Donation Station at your workplace, in your local community or at home amongst your friends and family.

Why should I sign up?

  • It’s a great opportunity that you can do with your team or with other people within your organisation. If you want to add an element of competition you could even get colleagues at different locations across the organisation to compete to see who can get the highest number of bags on the day.
  • On average, each bag of donated items in good condition is worth £22.80. This would kit out a scientist with a lab coat and protective equipment to carry out life-saving research (AND by adding Gift Aid each bag could be worth 25% more!)
  • After the opportunity we’ll provide you with a certificate showing exactly how much you’ve helped us to raise towards life-saving research.

How much time will it take?

Promotion: You’ll need to spend some time handing out bags and promoting your Donation Station. How much time you spend on this is completely up to you, but we would recommend a couple of hours across the week leading up to the day. Good ways of promoting in your workplace are via internal communications and on notice boards.

On the day: You'll need to be on hand to man your Donation Station. Why not do this over the lunch period or work with your team to take turns throughout the day?

After: Set aside some time to take what you’ve collected to your nearest CRUK shop. If you collect over 20 bags, your local CRUK shop can arrange for them to be picked up directly from you.

Who will I be volunteering with?

You can do this on your own, with work colleagues or with friends - it’s completely up to you!

When can I volunteer?

Whenever suits you.
