Retail volunteering for 16-17 year olds

Our volunteers are involved in all aspects of the store. As you progress through your volunteer journey, you may have the opportunity to get involved with tasks like:

• Organising donations – finding hidden gems and learning how to price the stock
• Creating eye catching window displays
• Helping your local store become more environmentally friendly
• Serving customers, taking cash and providing excellent all-round customer service
• Following new health, safety and social distancing measures

• You’ll be supported throughout your volunteering journey by one of our Shop Managers who will guide you through your skills development.
• You will be fully inducted into the charity and provided with ongoing training and support.
• You'll have the opportunity to work on building your skillset using your Volunteer Skills Pack.

Today 2 in 4 people survive cancer thanks to our world class research. But we won't stop there. Our aim is to continue progressing so that we can say in 20 years time 3 in 4 people survive.

By volunteering in one of our shops, you'll be supporting us to raise more funds for life-saving research.

Creativity – You may be given the opportunity to dress mannequins to showcase the stock or think of new promotions to encourage sales.

Relationship building – Once you’ve gained more experience you may have the chance to become a “new starter buddy”, responsible for welcoming and building relationships with new volunteers.

Decision making – You may have the chance to get involved in fundraising activity planning for campaigns such as World Cancer Day or Stand Up To Cancer.

There are many ways in which we like to celebrate and thank our volunteers for their amazing contributions to the charity. We’ll be happy to provide a factual reference and you could receive a certificate to highlight your achievements through volunteering.

For a more official accreditation, you could boost your CV further by taking a course with Derby College (restrictions apply). You could even find yourself nominated for an award in our annual awards ceremony!
