Try It Triathlon FAQs

You choose a triathlon distance from the four outlined here. Then swim, cycle and run the distance over the course of the month whilst getting sponsored to do so. You can complete the distances all at once, over the month, outdoors or in the gym – you decide.

There are four standard triathlon distances:

Sprint triathlon

  • 750m swim
  • 20km cycle
  • 5km run

Olympic triathlon

  • 1.5km swim
  • 40km cycle
  • 10km run

Half triathlon

  • 1.9km swim
  • 90km cycle
  • 21.09km run

Full triathlon

  • 3.8km swim
  • 180km cycle
  • 42.195km run

If you don’t have a GPS device, your phone will have plenty of free apps to track to distance you covered. Strava, Map My Ride and Google Maps are all free and highly recommended apps for tracking the running and cycling part of your triathlon but there are plenty more to choose from. If your swimming in a pool, make sure you calculate how many lengths you need to swim to cover your distance.

Participants register as an individual but can set up a team on their Giving page. Make sure all members sign up to get a fundraising page and then set up a team via the Cancer Research UK online fundraising site and invite other registrants to join.

The simplest way a participant can fundraise is to get their friends and family to sponsor them. Once participants have registered they will be emailed a downloadable Fundraising Pack to help with their fundraising efforts – including hints and tips to bring in extra sponsorship as well as a guide to help them prepare and complete their Triathlon. All participants are encouraged to direct their sponsors to their individual Giving Page when offering their donations.

Of course, it is completely free to enter. Although a donation to your Giving Page is always welcomed.

Complete a triathlon your own way this October to raise money for life saving cancer research.
