Relay For Life is an international movement of over four million Relayers, taking part in six thousand Relay For Life events across the globe. Together, we’ve raised over $6.9bn as a worldwide collective to beat cancer.  

Entry to Relay For Life is free. Teams of friends, families and colleagues fundraise for world-leading cancer research, then we unite as a collective at an event to remember loved ones, honour everyone affected by cancer and celebrate the progress we’re making. 

During the event, team members take turns to complete an activity, whether that be laps of a track, walking through a park or some other challenge. No matter your age or abilities, Relay welcomes everyone. Every step and every participant counts. There are also countless other ways to participate in your local Relay event, connect with your community and fundraise.  

Each Relay is organised by a dedicated local volunteer committee delivering an incredible event of celebration and remembrance. We honour our special guests who've lived through cancer, and as we walk, we enjoy a variety of games and music from talented local performers. It's an event for the whole family to enjoy where you can also learn about our scientific breakthroughs.  

As darkness falls, Relayers gather for the Candle of Hope ceremony. The event becomes a sea of flickering lights as we take a moment to reflect and honour everyone affected by cancer.  

Finally, no Relay For Life is complete without the closing ceremony which celebrates our progress and inspires us all to continue our efforts to beat cancer.

The Candle of Hope ceremony is a poignant part of Relay For Life. As the sun sets, candles are carefully lit. Each one honouring a life touched by cancer. 

Everyone is invited to join in this special moment. You can dedicate a candle to someone no longer with us, a friend or family member currently living with cancer, a loved one who has survived, or as a symbol of hope for the future - a world where everybody lives longer, better lives, free from the fear of cancer.  

Gather with your local community as we come together for a moment of quiet remembrance, reflection, and celebration. If you would like to dedicate a candle ahead of the night, please contact the committee using the details at the base of the page. The committee will also be able to help you with any queries about the event or your fundraising.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Can I bring my dog?

Yes - if it's friendly and under control.

What's the nearest station?

The nearest station is Bury St Edmunds train station. Please check public transport before you travel.

Is there parking?

Yes, parking is available.

Can I buy food and drinks on the day?

Yes, you can. You are also welcome to bring along any food and drinks that you might like with you.

What happens if it rains?

We will Relay on! Please come prepared for wet and cold weather.

What do I need to bring with me?

Your Relay t-shirt and if the event is overnight, please bring a tent and sleeping bag. You might also like to bring any food and drinks, a chair, sun cream, an umbrella (just in case!), warm clothes, spare socks and shoes, and any materials that you need for your fundraising stall (e.g. a gazebo and trestle table).

Each year, Relay For Life achieves something truly remarkable – raising over £1 million for world-class cancer research. Every penny raised makes a difference.   

£65 could buy special restriction enzymes. These act like molecular scissors to cut long strands of DNA, allowing our scientists to find out more about the genes that can cause cancer. 

£170 could fund one day of the ABC-07 clinical trial finding better treatments for people with bile duct cancer. The trial is combining a new type of radiotherapy with chemotherapy and the results could change the way we treat this cancer. 

£220 could fund our team of nine cancer nurses for one hour. Our nurse helpline offers confidential support and guidance to people affected by cancer.
