Set in the picturesque surroundings of the Surrey Hills this 10k course will be a serious hill-climb challenge to the summits of Box Hill.
With steep gradients and a mixture of grass, woodland tracks and paved paths the route will mount challenging inclines but with the ultimate reward of unrivalled panoramic views across the surrounding countryside and towards the south coast.
Well known for one of the most challenging hill climbs on the 2012 Olympic cycling route, this Toughest course will put participants to the ultimate test.

Please note this is an initial course description. The route may change before the event.
You must be aged 16 or over on the day of the event to take part. Persons aged 16 or 17 must take part with either a parent, guardian or, if having obtained their parent or legal guardian’s permission, another registered participant aged 18 or over.

Will there be a bag drop?
Yes. There will be a free of charge bag drop in the event area, however we cannot take responsibility for any belongings – please do not bring valuables with you.
Will there be water available?
Yes. There will be one water station on the course and a bottle of water for each participant at the finish line.
What is available for spectators?
We welcome spectators to visit Box Hill and cheer our participants on. The iconic Salomon’s Memorial Viewpoint is a great location to give our runners an encouraging cheer!
There will also be refreshment stands where spectators can purchase food and drink.
Are there toilets?
Yes, there will be toilets at the venue.
Are there shower facilities?
There are no shower facilities at the event so we suggest bringing a change of clothes with you.
Is the spectator area wheelchair accessible/suitable for pushchairs?
Due to the nature and terrain of the course it is not suitable for wheelchair access or pushchairs. Please note the main event venue is all on grass which may be muddy in November.
Are dogs allowed?
Dogs are welcome on the surrey hills, however please be responsible, keeping your dog under close control at all times and ensure you pick up after it.

Parking at this event is limited therefore we encourage the use of public transport where possible.
Dorking main line is a 12 minute walk.
On exiting the station continue straight ahead on to Lincoln Road. Turn right at the end onto London Road (A24) and continue for 500m to the first roundabout. Turn right onto Pixham Lane where you will find our main event area on the second entrance to your left.
Dorking Deepdene station is a 10 minute walk.
Exit station down the stair and turn right onto London road (A24) and continue for 500m to the first roundabout. Turn right onto Pixham Lane where you will find our main event area on the second entrance to your left.
Dorking is well-serviced by buses, including:
- Bus routes 21 and 516 stop in Pixham Lane - Chester Close (a 5 minute walk to the event site)
- Bus routes 465 and 533 stop on London road adjacent to Pixham Lane
- Bus routes 93, 32, and 22 stop and Dorking Main Station (a 12 minute walk)
If travelling by car please car share where possible.

Free of charge parking is available for Tough 10 participants and spectators at:

This is a 1 minute walk to venue. Please follow steward directions on the day.
Alternative local parking options:
1) Ryka’s Café Car park (18 minute walk) - Old London Road, Box Hill, Mickleham, Dorking, RH5 6BY
On exiting the car park, walk South along London Road (A24) and bear right at junction to stay on A24. Take first exit at the roundabout, continuing on A24 till you come to your second roundabout. Here, turn left up Pixham Lane where you will find our main event site at the second entrance to your left.
2) Town centre pay and display car parks are also available:
- Pippbrook, RH4 1SJ (15 minute walk)
- Reigate Car Park, RH4 1SD (15 minute walk)
The race will start at 10am. Please arrive 30 minutes before the start. You will need your running number that will be sent to you in the post prior to your event.
Before the race starts there will be a short warm up and safety briefing.
The route at Box Hill is a mixture of paths, grass and muddy slopes. Strong, supportive running shoes are essential. If the weather has been wet in the run up to the event we would recommend you wear trail shoes.
Please make sure you bring spare layers for the cold autumn weather and dress appropriately for the conditions.
The race will be chip timed using ResultsBase.
The event will be timed via the chip on the back of your running number. You don't need to do anything to activate this, it will automatically time you when you cross the start line
Event Day Volunteer
Whatever time you can join us at the event, there are so many ways you can help out on event day, whether you’re setting up marquees and putting out flags and banners or getting water to the start line and handing out medals at the finish. We’re on the lookout for volunteers with a proactive attitude and loads of enthusiasm to join the gang.
Course Marshal Volunteer
Inspire, cheer and motivate participants by covering one of the marshal points on the course. This crucial role ensures the event runs smoothly and participants feel motivated. This role is perfect for team players with great communication skills who can use their initiative when dealing with anything that may occur on the course.
