What your donation can fund
If 180 people donate just £5, we could fund a week of research that’s aimed at reducing barriers to bowel screening.
If 320 people give £10 each, we could fund one week of the STAMPEDE trial, which is looking at finding new treatments for people with advanced prostate cancer.
If 128 people give £25 each, we could fund one week of the AURORA trial that’s exploring much-needed treatment options for people with a rare form of bladder cancer.

The capsule sponge, developed by scientists funded by Cancer Research UK – is a simple, quick, and affordable test for Barrett’s oesophagus, a condition that can increase your risk of developing oesophageal cancer.
In England, around 1 in 10 (12.4%) of those diagnosed with oesophageal cancer survive their disease for 10 years or more (2013-2017). The capsule sponge could change this, as this device allows GPs to easily detect Barrett’s oesophagus, which could subsequently help diagnose oesophageal cancer earlier when treatment is more likely to be successful.
“We found 10 times more cases of Barrett’s oesophagus in the people that were offered a capsule sponge compared to the number of cases usually detected by GPs” says Professor Rebecca Fitzgerald whose team developed the test.

Having been affected by acid reflux for years, Liz signed up for the BEST3 trial funded by Cancer Research UK, which tested whether the capsule sponge could help diagnose Barrett’s oesophagus.
Thanks to the trial and capsule sponge, Liz’s oesophageal cancer was caught at an early stage and it could be quickly removed with a simple procedure.
